The CGH Community Medicine Program aims at training mostly juniors and seniors students in the pre-health pathways to gain clinical experience. Currently, our students are being trained as paramedics by professionals from Reid’s emergency care unit. Students experience a semester of in-class trainings and info session, and hands-on experience during their second semester of being in the program. Students get a chance to work the Reid Paramedic team to visit patients who are frequent visitors of the Emergency Care Unit at Reid Hospital. Due to transportation difficulties in Indiana, some patients are unable to receive the care they need. Therefore this program aims at making healthcare accessible for people coming from disadvantaged backgrounds by paying regular visit to the patients’ homes to make sure that they have all the important medical equipment, medications, etc. needed for their current medical conditions.
