The Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship was established by the Hungarian Government and is supervised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The Programme is for those who live in a Hungarian diaspora and wish to study at a Hungarian higher education institution to develop deeper personal, professional, and cultural ties to Hungary. 28 Hungarian institutions are involved in the Programme, with more than 1000 Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral study programmes, offered mostly in the English and Hungarian languages, both in full degree and partial/exchange study modes.
Who May Apply
To be eligible for the Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship you must:
- Be a member of a Hungarian diaspora (i.e., someone of Hungarian descent) living in any country outside of the European Union, the Republic of Serbia, or the Zakarpattia Oblast of Ukraine;
- Acquire a recommendation from the local diaspora organization or the Hungarian representation (see the website for details); and
- Be eligible for acceptance for a programme of study in Hungary.
Award Description and Duration
The scholarship covers tuition and fees, medical insurance and, upon request, a contribution to the accommodation cost and a monthly stipend.
Application Deadline
The application deadline for the 2022-23 academic year is January 31, 2022.
Notification
There are multiple selection points, with final notification in July.
