A professional association organized to sustain quality public education, improve students’ educational opportunities and advance the professional status of educators.

Public school educators from teachers to education support professionals to retired educators. Additionally, students preparing to enter the education field have the option to join the Indiana State Teachers Association Aspiring Educators (ISTA Aspiring Educators). Those interested in joining should contact their association representative (RA), UniServ office or the Member Resource Center at 844-ASK-ISTA (844-275-4782).

Members are entitled to ISTA conferences and professional development programming, UniServ and legal assistance and personal consultation on issues such as employment, retirement and certification, member-only publications, insurance and liability policies, discounts on travel and services and more. ISTA is a state affiliate of NEA and adheres to a unified membership and to the guidelines of NEA. ISTA members are enrolled as members of NEA and receive professional support and significant, cost-saving member benefits through that membership.

These are the associations established in school districts or counties. They are the voice of members at the grassroots level and act as the collective bargaining team to negotiate salary and salary-related benefits for its members. Local associations can be organized by teachers and education support professionals.
