Most U.S. veterinary schools require applicants to gain significant veterinary experience before applying for admission. These experiences will help you learn about the profession you wish to enter and will inform your decision to apply to veterinary school.
Location: Animal Care Alliance
What will you do: Animal Care Alliance is a low-cost clinic that provides a needed service to the Richmond community. While their most popular services include spay/neuter clinic, they can also provide needed medications for domestic animals. Additionally, ACA also boasts the area’s only Wildlife Rescue, Rehabilitation, and Education programs.
Volunteers will assist with all aspects of the clinic’s operations, including cleaning equipment, preparing the rooms for patient visits, interacting with the patients during visits, resident animal caretaking, and general office administration. Opportunities for shadowing the vet team will also be available, especially during clinic days (spay/neuter).
Requirements: Apply to the Health Externship Program* (semester prior to the requested start).
Hours Available: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 9am – 5pm
