What are Career Communities?
A liberal arts education offers students the flexibility to pursue great opportunities in a variety of different fields because it allows for developing adaptability and the ability to draw from multiple different disciplinary perspectives. Career Education expands on that notion through a Career Communities approach to professional and vocational discernment.
Instead of focusing on the major(s) that a student completes, coaching and mentorship based on a Career Communities model is more future- and outcomes-oriented as it focuses on the industries in which a student may find themselves employed. Coaching through a Career Communities model is a way to help students discern the skills and experiences needed to better prepare for their fields of interest after graduation.
Each Career Community may include:
- Career coach
- Faculty mentor(s)
- Peer coach(es)
- Alumni mentor(s)
- Industry professional(s)
We strongly encourage all students to select one (or more) of the Career Communities to join. To register your interest, please log into this website above, choose the “Sign in with your Earlham ID” option, and then select one or more Career Communities (and possibly other communities, too) to follow. We also recommend opting for the weekly email update, which comes on Monday mornings.
Career Communities at Earlham are centered around four broad career areas that Earlhamites often pursue after college:
- Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Creativity
- Health & Medicine
- Science & the Environment
- Social Justice, Education & Public Affairs
Opportunities in Your Inbox
By joining a Career Community at Earlham, you’ll start receiving information from the CGCE about upcoming opportunities related to that community. That means special invitations to events, timely communications about internships and jobs, and much, much more.
A Network of Advisers
Each Career Community has an ever-growing network of people connected to it. These include career coaches, faculty, alumni, and employers. By joining a Career Community, you’ll be able to tap into a range of expertise in your fields of interest.
Join Your Community
It’s easy to get started. Just log into uConnect (see the top right-hand corner of this page) and fill out your preferences, making sure you select the Career Communities you’re most interested in. (We recommend you don’t choose more than three Career Communities at one time!) If your interests change over time, no problem. Just navigate back to your profile and change your selections.
